Etiology
Alpha thalassemia syndromes
- Silent carrier (3 alpha globin genes, normal hematocrit)
- Alpha thalassemia minor or trait (2 genes, hematocrit 32-40%, MCV 60-75)
- Hemoglobin H disease (3 genes, hematocrit 22-32%, MCV 60-70)
- Hydrops fetalis (0 genes)
- Beta thalassemia minor
- Beta thalassemia intermedia
- Beta thalassemia major
