Alpha thalassemia syndromes

  • Silent carrier (3 alpha globin genes, normal hematocrit)
  • Alpha thalassemia minor or trait (2 genes, hematocrit 32-40%, MCV 60-75)
  • Hemoglobin H disease (3 genes, hematocrit 22-32%, MCV 60-70)
  • Hydrops fetalis (0 genes)
Beta thalassemia syndromes
  • Beta thalassemia minor
  • Beta thalassemia intermedia
  • Beta thalassemia major
