Eosinophilic pulmonary syndromes

Etiology

  • Chronic eosinophilic pneumonia
  • Acute eosinophilic pneumonia (Loeffler's syndrome)
  • Drugs: nitrofurantoin, phenytoin, ampicillin, penicillin, sulfonamides, acetaminophen, ranitidine, methotrexate
  • Helminth infection: ascariasis, hookworm, strongyloidiasis, paragonimiasis, toxocariasis (visceral larva migrans), tropical pulmonary eosinophilia (Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi)
  • Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA)
  • Churg-Strauss syndrome
  • Systemic hypereosinophilic syndromes
  • Eosinophilic granuloma (Langerhans cell histiocytosis, histiocytosis X)
  • Malignancy
  • Numerous interstitial lung diseases
  • Toxins: inhaled crack cocaine, heroin, Scotchguard, sulfite pesticides
