  • Ultraviolet (actinic) keratitis
  • Eyelid disorder, eg, hordeolum, chalazion, blepharitis
  • Inverted eyelash (eg, entropion)
  • Dacryocystitis (lacrimal sac infection)
  • Decreased tearing, eg, age-related, Sjögren’s syndrome, anticholinergics
  • Blocked tear duct
  • Sinusitis
  • Migraine or cluster headache
  • Temporal (giant cell) arteritis
  • Ophthalmic zoster (pain may precede rash)
  • Uveitis
  • Scleritis or episcleritis
  • Optic neuritis
